Straight, shiny and oh-so-sexy… All of the Instagram A-listers are rocking gorgeous glass hair right now. And yes, you can get the look at home!

This super sleek hairstyling trend works best on medium to long hair that has been cut blunt - so no layering and definitely no split ends.

Step 1: Squeaky-clean hair

The trick to achieving shimmering glass hair is to use a sulphate-free shampoo, ensuring that your hair is squeaky-clean with nothing weighing it down. You may be tempted to try a shampoo and conditioner that contain smoothing ingredients - but these will actually minimise the shine, rather than enhance it.

We recommend Mizani True Textures Moisture Replenish Shampoo because it is silicone-, sulphate- and paraben-free to leave your hair thoroughly clean. It’s great to use if you have curly or wavy hair - even if you aren’t planning on styling it straight. The formula helps to clarify your hair and removes product build-up to restore your hair’s buoyancy, shine and natural curl texture.

Step 2: Blow-dry and skip the flat-iron

What? No flat iron? Yup - the best way to enhance your hair’s shine is to blow-dry using high heat and a large, round brush. You can use your flat-iron to tame certain areas once you’re done, but most of the shine and smoothness of glass hair actually comes from blow-drying.

When using heat, protection for your hair is a must. Work a couple of pumps of Redken Diamond Oil Glow Dry through your locks. We love this product because not only does it provide superb protection against heat damage, it also gives your hair a glimmering, diamond-like shine and a silky-soft texture.

Divide your hair into sections and blow-dry each section using a large, round brush. Be sure to angle your hairdryer so that the flow of air is down the shaft from root to tip, which will ensure that the hair cuticles remain flat and smooth.

Finish off by taming any flyaways with a tiny drop of Redken Diamond Oil Glow Dry dabbed at your hairline and worked through the ends of your hair.
