You can say all you like about beauty being only skin deep, but there’s something about a new haircut that makes a girl feel like she can rule the world. Winter is on its way, making it the perfect opportunity to change things up with an updated ‘do.

The chilly winter air makes your hair dry, so it’s a great time for a cut to get rid of any damaged bits and reveal the healthy ends - even if it’s just a trim. Here are our favourite styles for all lengths, to keep your hair hot and happening this winter.

Short hair

Long pixie cut: This is a cut that works brilliantly with all hair types and hair textures. If your naturally kinky hair is hard to style, this is the cut for you. If you struggle with thin, wispy hair, this is also the cut for you.

This short style is just so wonderfully versatile, and the latest trend is to leave a little more length on top. This allows for more styling options and for your natural texture to come through if you want it to.

Chin-length bob: The bob has been around ever since girls decided to chop off their long hair back in the 1920s - and it’s become a favourite that will never go out of style.

If you have thin, silky hair, wear it blunt, cut to all one length. This will give the illusion of thicker hair. If you have natural curls prone to frizz, or very thick hair, ask your hairdresser for choppy layers. This reduces bulk and helps to tame the texture into a flattering shape.

Already have a bob but want to update the look? Opt for an angled bob - shorter at the back, with long layers in the front.

Shoulder-length layers: This style is reminiscent of the 90s, with medium length layers that frame the face. Ask for lots of layers that are NOT choppy. These layers should be fluid and seamless.

Add a fringe: If you have long hair and want to keep it long, transform your look with a fringe. A heavy, wispy or side-swept fringe are all great styles to wear with long hair. A fringe works with all hair textures, if you’re prepared to put a bit of effort into styling it.

Even if you don’t want to take the plunge with a drastic cut, a trim every three months or so is essential to keeping your hair healthy and free from split ends. Visit your salon and speak to your stylist for advice.
