Refreshing your long hair look without scissors
e all have those days. You know, the ones where you’re happy with your long hair one moment, and the next, you’re bored of the style and craving a drastic change. Before you know it, you have a pair of shears in your hand…
Put the scissors down! It took months to grow your locks to that length, and cutting them off in a fit of frustration may inevitably lead to regret at a later stage. Don’t get us wrong, there’s definitely nothing wrong with shorter ‘dos, but consider trying some of these ideas first, before you commit to getting rid of your luscious locks in the quest for change.
One of the easiest ways to change up a look without committing to anything drastic or long-term is with accessories – and with long hair, you have loads of surface area and length to experiment with. So, add some hair clips or pins, try a headband, pepper in some flowers, or wrap an elegant scarf around those locks. The possibilities are endless!
Try sleek, flicked, curled or wavy
No matter what style you’re going for with a flat iron, the first thing you should always do is apply heat protection, like Kérastase Nectar Thermique. Now, part your hair into sections so that it’s easier to manage.
For a dead-straight style, work the iron through your locks, from top to bottom. For flicks, start halfway down your mane and do a u-shape movement, away from your head, and then back towards it. Finally, if you want a long curly hairstyle, replicate the flick movement above, except start higher up – closer to the scalp (be careful not to burn yourself) – and work your way down. Move slower if you want a tighter curl, and faster if you want something wavier.
There’s a world of colour out there, and it’s filled to the brim with different techniques and gorgeous combinations for you to play with! Rock balayage highlights , or an ombre or sombre look, or go all out with colour melted hair ! Whatever you decide to try, use Matrix’s Color Obsessed Shampoo and Conditioner to keep those hues popping brightly.
There are many styles for long hair out there to choose from. If you’re still uncertain though, perhaps it’s time you visited a professional stylist. They’ll offer recommendations for you to try – before you commit to a chop. Heck, if you decide there’s no other alternate, they’ll be able to do the cut for you right then and there. And give it a trendy spin at the same time!
